Fancy moving around Delhi in the evening, when the air is cooler and the monuments are lit up? Delhi's tourism department has launched a new tour called 'Delhi by Evening' to encourage sightseeing and bolster the tourism industry in the summer.

The programme has been launched after the success of the department's 'Haunted Walks', which are also conducted in the evenings.

Here's your lowdown on the Delhi by Evening initiative.

The Delhi by Evening excursion will begin at the National War Memorial, where sightseers will be able to observe the retreat ceremony that takes place just before sunset. Each evening, the family of one martyr is honoured at the memorial. A tour guide will be present to assist the tourists.

They will then be taken to India Gate where they can walk along the Kartavya Path. This will be followed be visits to Safdarjung Tomb and Qutub Minar, which are beautifully illuminated in the evening.

The tour will conclude with an optional dinner at Dilli Haat INA, where tourists will also get the opportunity to shop.

The 'Delhi by evening' tour will operate on weekends and on group demand, as per Delhi Tourism. It will begin at 5 pm and end at 10 pm.

The attendees will travel in a department tour bus, which will have a dedicated pick up and drop point. Around 30 people will be taken in a batch.

While the tariff for the tour is Rs 500, the total cost including GST amounts to be Rs 525. Bookings can be made via the Delhi Tourism website or by using the ‘Dekho Meri Dilli’ app.

The evening tour is expected to attract more tourists during the summer.

Atul Pandey, a tourist information officer, shared, “After we started a new trail — Haunted Walks — we received a good response. People are interested as it is scheduled in the evening. So, we have designed a new tour in the evenings for about five hours.”

The evening time of the tour will also help support the hotel industry by increasing the number of guests who stay the night in the city, officials said.
