Travel The World With The Citizenrys New Mexico Collection
NEW YORK – Global home décor brand The Citizenry has launched its new Mexico collection of tabletop and home decor.
Inspired by Hierve El Agua, the travertine rock pools of Oaxaca, and traditional Mexican architecture, this collection is designed to celebrate Mexico’s colorful and diverse craft culture, according to the company.
The Citizenry personally travels to each country establishes sustainable relationships with artisans who use local materials to create their products. The company said this is how they are able to provide high quality materials at more reasonable prices.
The new collection is inspired by Mexico’s diversity of craft and culture and features bold, architectural designs and fluid, organic shapes.
“We designed this collection as a way to celebrate Mexico’s colorful and diverse craft culture,” said Paulo Kos, vice president of design and development for The Citizenship. “Building upon our existing Mexico assortment, we were inspired by the natural landscapes and ancient architecture of Oaxaca, characterized by bold designs and fluid shapes.”
Kos said that getting back to the roots of Mexican craftsmanship naturally had them focus on sustainability, including textiles hand dyed with organic materials and glassware crafted solely from recycled glass bottles. The textiles in the collection are a representation of the Zapotec women of Oaxaca and their roots – incorporating beauty and liberty into each design, added Kos.
Primarily showcasing handwoven rugs, handcast ceramics and recycled blown-glass accents, each piece builds on the brand’s existing Mexico assortment and can be blended with current styles.
Highlights from the collection include:
- Vases and Candle Holders – Inspired by the landscapes throughout Mexico – from the sandy beaches to the open countryside, the elements of nature can be seen in every piece.
- Cacao Cups – From clay and stone mixtures to glaze processes, each features lines and accents painted by hand.
- Recycled Glass Cups – Cast-off bottles, vases and other glassware are reborn to create these one-of-a-kind vessels which feature organic shapes and textures.
“Consumers can add a touch of travel to their home this summer with these sustainable pieces,” said a company spokesperson. “You won’t find everything here, just a handful of precious creations. Each item is handcrafted, hand numbered and available only in limited quantities.”
The Citizenry has a commitment to provide fair wages, happy working environments and sustaining grants to its artisan partners.
